Welcome to the February issue of Compass

27 February 2018

Welcome to the first edition of Compass on our new interactive PDF format.  Thank you to the design team that have helped us with this and do let us know if you have any comments on the new look.

We start this month looking at changes to the PPF contingent asset rules and technical changes to the way bridging pensions work in that fund.  Also a recent case in relation to the PPF benefit cap and how it interacts with transferred in benefits is considered.

In the second article we look at the Pension Regulator’s recent action against pension scams, its action against a bus company that wilfully failed to comply with the law on workplace pensions – the first such prosecution by the Pensions Regulator, and finally further action by the Regulator in respect of a scheme that failed to produce audited accounts for two years running.

The next article looks at the recent age discrimination case in the Employment Appeal Tribunal in respect of the New Judges Pension Scheme and looks forward to the next round of litigation in relation to firefighters.

Elsewhere in Compass we cover:

  • The latest legal case around increases of defined benefit pensions in payment, this time a further section of the BT scheme.
  • HM Revenue & Customs statistics on the estimated cost of pension tax reliefs and on the details of pension scheme members taking advantage of defined contribution flexibility.
  • A round up of other employee benefit news.
