Compass June 2018
DownloadWelcome to the June issue of Compass
Compass provides commentary and analysis of recent legislative and regulatory developments affecting pensions and employee benefits.
This month we take a look at the latest developments with the Box Clever case (ITV plc and others v The Pensions Regulator and others) following the publication of the Upper Tribunal’s decision. This case focuses on the Pensions Regulator’s powers in relation to the issuing of Financial Support Directions (FSDs). It is likely that this case will be appealed and will continue to rumble on.
We also examine the joint report from the Parliamentary Select Committees on Carillion plc. The report is quite critical of Carillion’s business model and the Regulator’s involvement with the various pension scheme trustees.
Over in Ireland, the Government has published a consultation on state pension reform, ahead of changes being introduced in 2020.
Elsewhere in Compass we cover:
- The Regulator’s latest prosecutions and enforcement action, including fines for trustees who had failed to keep their pension information held on Exchange up to date
- Two topical Ombudsman decisions
- The latest news from HMRC including the launch of its new online service for managing and registering pension schemes
- A round up of other news
