Case law has established a number of principles and it is important that these are fully adhered to so that the risk to your establishment is minimised when either providing an employment reference for a current or former employee or acting on a reference received for a prospective employee.

Another area for concern is the management of probation periods:

The management of probation periods continues to generate a number of calls to our HR Advisory service.

With regard to teaching staff, once they have completed their NQT induction period they are not subject to any further probation periods if they move schools.
