Welcome to the June 2016 edition of Compass
The June edition of our online monthly publication, Compass, is now available. Compass provides commentary and analysis of recent legislative and regulatory developments affecting pensions and employee benefits.
This edition goes out just ahead of the Brexit vote and we will look at the implications of the result of that vote in the July edition of Compass. Pension legislation, regulation and practice has been significantly affected by European law, but the extent to which it may change further either in or out of the EU is far from clear right now. Similarly, the direct effect of EU membership or non-membership on scheme asset values and investment returns are subject to many conflicting claims which we will not devote time to here.
There is still a lot to write about in relation to pensions that is known and in this edition we look at the main new issues affecting pension provision in the UK.
There has been much press discussion about the fate of the British Steel Pension Scheme and we look at the controversial consultation proposals to reduce the scheme liabilities. We also look at the outline proposals for the Pensions Dashboard that the Government is keen to see established for pension savers. The FCA has also highlighted an increased risk of pensions fraud involving the over 55s and we look at its warnings.
Elsewhere in Compass we look at:
- Two consultations on capping early exit charges that are applied to some pension savers
- Recent publications and comment from the Pensions Regulator
- A further consultation on a new help to save initiative
- A round up of other developments.
