May 2017 issue of Compass
Compass provides commentary and analysis of recent legislative and regulatory developments affecting pensions and employee benefits.
The decision to hold a General Election in June meant that the Finance Act was hurried into law without a number of the expected clauses. Unfortunately, this leaves a degree of uncertainty, especially for members subject to the money purchase annual allowance, and it seems unlikely that we will know the repercussions of this until after the election results have been announced and the dust has settled.
In the meantime, the Pensions Regulator has been busy working on enabling employers to meet their automatic enrolment duties but where an employer fails then the Regulator has been naming and shaming in an attempt to show that the issue can’t be ignored.
Elsewhere in Compass we cover:
The Pension Schemes Act being passed into law
Research findings looking at how employers can help employees manage their finances
Proposed amendments to the employer debt regulations
An update on the fight against pension scams
The publication of the Pensions Regulator’s annual funding statement which will be relevant to trustees undertaking valuations effective for 2017
The publication of plans outlined for the Pensions Regulator and Financial Conduct Authority for 2018 and beyond
