Vote Gary Smith for PLSA’s Defined Contribution Council
We’re pleased to announce that Gary Smith, head of DC consulting, has been shortlisted as a candidate for the Pensions and Lifetime Savings Association’s (PLSA) Defined Contribution (DC) Council.
Below is Gary’s supporting statement:
“I am a familiar face to those in the defined contribution (DC) world. I have been advising clients on DC matters since the early 1990s during a career spent at Bacon & Woodrow and Towers Watson as well as been instrumental in the development of DC products at both Schroders and BlackRock. During most of my career, in some form or other, I have been at the forefront of driving developments and best practice across the UK DC industry.
My current role at Capita Employee Benefits has allowed me to utilise both of these skill sets: transforming the firm’s DC advisory practice through the changes brought by the Retail Distribution Review, auto-enrolment and Freedom and Choice reforms whilst also being a key architect in the development of Atlas, Capita’s master trust proposition.
I am a passionate believer that strong governance is the key foundation of good member outcomes; when the right governance structure is in place this naturally drives engaging communication, education and engagement programmes, influences investment innovation and delivers value for money for employer and employee alike.
My personal contribution to DC has been recognised by my peers, being named European Pensions Personality of the Year in 2010 and as one of the Top 5 Pension and Investment Consultants by Plan Sponsor Europe in 2011".
I am keen to join the DC Council. The DC market is evolving rapidly through a time of constant regulatory and legislative change and will be a lynchpin of people’s lifetime savings. It is vital that the PLSA continues to be both a champion and a watchdog for DC plans and I believe that my experience and position put me in an ideal place to support the PLSA’s role.
If you are a PLSA member, it would be greatly appreciated if you could support Gary in his bid for council.
Voting papers must be submitted in line with PLSA guidelines by COB Friday 16 September.
